Shark bot

Shark is an elasmobranch fish, and is one of the larger apex predator of the ocean. In many forms of media, Shark is usually depicted as a ferocious and vicious man-eater, when in reality they do not actively go after human and were instead killed by human for their fins or as by catch. Due to pollution and overharvesting, the shark population is on a decline and this would have a detrimental effect on the ocean ecosystem.

Through shark bot, we wish to help young children understand that shark’s behavior, sensory system and their diet to clear the misrepresentation of shark in many modern media that children come in contact with.

Behavior

Movement:

Swimming motion

Idle:

Stops movement

[turn off after set amount of time to simulate the fact that some shark (obligate ram ventilators) would suffocate when not moving forward]

Detection:

Smart camera located near the eyes

The shark bot moves around until a special “food” item is detected.

When detected, the shark bot would stop moving, drop its jaw and scope up the “food” and close the jaw using a motor.

The shark would then go back to the starting position and drop the “food” from the back and end the session.
